Meditation Foundation FAQs

1/ What are the benefits of Meditation Foundation?
By learning to still the mind, the practitioner is able to feel more at peace and in charge of their life. If you are able to be more peaceful when facing a challenging situation, you are better able to deal with it, and will feel less ‘stressed’. Meditation Foundation also helps develop focus and concentration; skills which are useful in every part of life and in most careers. Meditation Foundation can also benefit people with many different health problems, both mental and physical, as the mind affects the body, and vice versa. For example, stress makes asthma worse, and an asthma attack can make someone feel anxious, thus making the asthma worse still. Being able to feel more at peace and relaxed would therefore benefit an asthmatic patient. Likewise allergy, eczema, depression, anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure and a host of other problems can benefit from Meditation Foundation.

2/ How long does it take to learn?
Meditation Foundation is taught in a single one-off session. If you choose to come to a group class, the session will last approximately 2 hours. A one-to-one session is usually 1 hour.

3/ How often should I practice it?
We usually suggest that clients use this first thing in the morning and before bed at night. This is so that you start the day in the best possible way, and you go to bed to sleep in a more peaceful state, benefiting your sleep. Some people also use it at lunch time, so that they can reconnect with the peace half way through their day. But of course, it can be used any time someone feels that they need it.

4/ How long should a session be?
Meditation Foundation is a very flexible practice. It can be used for just five minutes if this is all you have. However, the more you use it, and the longer you stay with it, the more you will benefit. We encourage clients to use it until they feel at peace; this may be five minutes, or longer, depending on your concentration and how you are.

5/ Is it part of any religion?
No. Transformation Yoga and the Meditation Foundation teachings are universal. They have been taught to people of all religions and none. We respect our patients and clients own beliefs and practices. Meditation Foundation is included in the range of services offered at the Centre because we have found it to be so beneficial to many peoples health and wellbeing.

6/ How is it different from Pure Meditation?
Meditation Foundation and many other ‘meditation’ practices are what we know as meditative peace techniques; they allow someone to begin to still the mind. Pure Meditation (stage 4 Transformation Yoga) is a more in-depth meditation, allowing the meditator to still the mind, and connect at a deep level with peace, joy, inner wisdom and unconditional love. Pure Meditation also helps in the development of intuition and discernment. It is taught on a five day residential course, and interested students are referred to a training Centre which offers this.

7/ I’m very busy - Is it practical to fit this into a busy lifestyle?
Yes. It can be used for as little as five minutes at a time. The busier your life, the more important it is to find balance within it, and Meditation Foundation can help to achieve this. It has been tried and tested by busy people from all walks of life.

8/ I have problems sleeping, will this help?
We recommend that people use their Meditation Foundation practice before bed, so that they are going to sleep in a more peaceful state. If you wake in the night, it can be useful to use your Meditation Foundation again. It is much easier to go back to sleep if you are feeling relaxed and peaceful, than if you are frustrated by your lack of sleep.
